On 14 June, the Uniting Church Synod of NSW and ACT held a Stewardship of Earth Conference. At this fono (a Pasifika word meaning community meeting), participants joined in person on Burramattagal land at the Centre for Ministry North Parramatta and online to share and reflect on the various understandings of what it means to be stewards (carers, servers) in the context of climate crises. The event was facilitated by Rev. Dr Jione Havea and the Uniting Climate team.
Activists and practitioners, theologians and scholars, explored being and becoming responsible stewards of Earth and working toward climate justice.
The day included presentations from speakers from a diversity of perspectives, backgrounds and disciplines and an open mic session for high school students to read poems on “The Sounds of Climate Justice.”
