Run a Meal and Movie Night
The Ethical Consumer Group has a movie library with DVDs on various themes such as consumerism, corporations, climate change, factory farming, genetic engineering, peak oil, waste, and worker exploitation, available for borrowing.
Why not invite your church to share a meal, then watch a movie, and follow with a discussion? And why not invite your local community to come along? There is now a Shop Ethical app to download as a resource for people to use in their shopping following the movie night. See details at https://www.ethical.org.au/get-involved/host-a-movie-night/
Buy Fair Trade
Want a relatively easy way to help the environment and poor farmers in developing nations? Buying Fair Trade products such as tea, coffee and chocolate for your church and home is a great way to start.
By purchasing products that carry the Fairtrade Certified label you can ensure that the small farmers who produced the products have received at least a minimum price that is higher than the cost of sustainable production; a premium to invest in their development; and that the production of that product has met a set of strict environmental standards.
You can also go a step further by having your church become Fair Trade endorsed, or an individual becoming a Fair Trade advocate in your church with access to resources to engage other church members.
