This resource, prepared by the Forest Advocacy Ministry Committee (FAMC), is based on the service of induction of Forest Chaplain the Rev. Dr Jason John. The service took place at an outdoor gathering on the grounds of Gleniffer Church on Gumbaynggirr Country on February 18, 2024. The Uniting Church Assembly has a standard Service of Induction of a Deacon. However, FAMC found the standard service to be unsuitable for our context. The standard service assumes that all those gathered are Christians. As is the case for many deacon placements, the Forest Chaplain role serves not in a church congregation but in a wider community context. We therefore developed a modified service suitable for a broader gathering, which we offer through this resource for the consideration of others who are preparing for an induction in a community setting. The service presented here was 70 minutes long.
